Democrats on the House Education and Labor Committee this week introduced the College Affordability Act. The legislation would rework the nation’s main higher education law that would, in part, make community college tuition-free through a federal-state partnership, invest more in developmental education and allow Pell grants to cover qualifying short-term training programs. Answer the Call for Proposals
The Call for Proposals for the 100th AACC Annual Convention is open. The 2020 convention agenda will include traditional and interactive sessions. More than 250 sessions will be organized into four mini-conventions. Faculty, mid-managers, senior administrators and CEOs will all have their own space to engage with and learn from their peers. The deadline for proposals is 5 p.m. (ET) on November 15. Only AACC members may submit proposals.

Send nominations for AACC awards
Through its awards program, AACC celebrates the work of community colleges and the students they support. Submit nominations for the AACC Awards of Excellence and the Outstanding Alumni Awards, as well as the Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty recognition, which celebrates the contributions of our colleges’ faculty to teaching and learning. Award recipients will be honored at the AACC Annual Convention. Deadline for nominations: November 15.

Register for WDI 2020
Registration is open for AACC’s Workforce Development Institute (WDI) January 22–25, 2020, on Amelia Island, Florida. The theme is “Economic Innovators.” The annual institute brings together community college workforce development leaders, industry, federal agencies and foundations.

AACC Roueche-FLI at WDI
AACC’s John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute (FLI) will be offered prior to WDI at the meeting’s location. The Roueche–FLI is for mid-level community college administrators looking to advance into a senior leadership role. Registration rates are discounted for those who attend both FLI and WDI.

 JKCF Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is accepting applications for its Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This is a highly selective scholarship for the nation’s top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at four-year colleges or universities. The deadline is November 20.
