First lady Jill Biden was in Columbus Wednesday afternoon to officially kick off the region’s selection as one of five hubs nationwide meant to fully turn the multibillion-dollar investments being made in the region into good jobs.

The $15 million investment will allow students graduating from high school or its equivalent in 2024 and 2025 to attend any of Maine’s seven community colleges without paying any tuition or mandatory fees. That’s a value of more than $3,800 a year.
