Answer the call for proposals
Share your knowledge at the 99th AACC Annual Convention April 13-16, 2019, in Orlando, Florida. Answer the Call for Proposals! AACC seeks proposals that reflect the best thinking in the field informed by outcomes that demonstrate success. Please read the guidelines before submitting your proposal. The deadline to submit is October 31.

Tick tock…Time to submit nominations for AACC awards
You now can submit nominations for several of AACC’s awards — Outstanding Alumni and Leadership Awards, Distinguished Faculty and the Awards of Excellence. Awards will be presented at AACC’s convention. Deadlines are fast approaching for the Outstanding Alumni and Leadership Awards: nominations are due October 19.

Addressing unconscious bias
AACC on October 30 will host a free webinar on addressing unconscious bias to create an inclusive campus community. Register now.

AACC John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute at WDI
The next AACC John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute (FLI) will be held Jan. 29–30 in San Diego, in conjunction with the AACC Workforce Development Institute.  The seminar is designed for workforce and economic development and continuing education professionals who want to advance their career.  Get more details and register online.

Program initiatives

Metallica Scholars initiative
Metallica’s All Within My Hands (AWMH) Foundation has launched the Metallica Scholars Initiative, led by AACC. The program includes $100,000 grants to fund direct support of career and technical education programs. Only AACC-member colleges within the cities in which Metallica has performed (or will perform) in the years of 2017 to 2019 are eligible. Apply by November 1. Click here for more information.

AACC/Accenture workforce and economic development initiative
AACC has teamed with Accenture to identify and engage with three AACC-member community colleges to test the effectiveness and relevance of the Accenture Skills to Succeed Academy, an online tool that uses short, interactive videos to prepare jobseekers for career choices, job finding and workplace success. Each college will receive $13,200. Eligibility information is available here. AACC and Accenture will hold three informational webinars this month.

What’s keeping enrollment up at one Alabama college
Northwest-Shoals Community College’s bump in enrollment is mainly due to distance education and dual enrollment of high school students. Recognizing outstanding achievements in campus internationalization
The NAFSA 2019 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization nomination process is now open. The award recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that are making significant, well-planned, well-executed and well-documented progress toward comprehensive internationalization — especially those using innovative and creative approaches.
