New campus president

Lisa Williams has been named president of the Eastern Campus of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) in Ohio. She has served as interim president for the past months, and is also an alumna of the college.

Williams enters the new position with nearly two decades of leadership experience at community colleges. She began working full time at Tri-C in 1995 in health careers programs, eventually becoming the associate dean of health careers at Eastern Campus. Williams left Tri-C in 2009 to become vice president for academic affairs at Terra State Community College in Ohio. She returned to Cleveland in 2014 to become Tri-C’s vice president of learning and engagement.

CEO retirement

Bruce R. Scism, president of Danville Community College (DCC) in Virginia, plans to retire in December.

The Advanced IT Academy and truck driving program were also developed during Scism’s tenure, and the college earned the cyber security certification of program excellence by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security in 2017.

DCC recently earned the GoTec Award through the Go Virginia initiative, which places a career exploration lab in area middle schools with the intent to engage them with hands-on activities related to career fields such as engineering, information technology, and advanced manufacturing.

Prior to DCC, Scism was vice president of academic affairs at Volunteer State Community College (Tennessee) for five years, and served as its interim president for several months in 2011-12. He was chief academic officer at Lee College (Texas) from 2006 to 2008, and previously served as vice president for academic affairs and student services at Triton College (Illinois) and as its associate vice president for instructional technology.

Scism also was coordinator of the Illinois Prairie Higher Education Consortium and the Illinois Prairie Internet Consortium from 1999 to 2001, and served as director of virtual learning at Lake Land College (Illinois).
