The Del Mar College Department of Public Safety Education will hold Session II of their Public Safety Academy for 8th through 12th graders from July 12 through July 22. Young students interested in a career in public safety will engage in hands-on experiences during the academy.
The academy runs 1-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the West Campus Public Safety Education Complex.
Del Mar College's youth summer program will provide active learning in emergency medical services, fire science and criminal justice, including some CSI or crime scene investigation work, as part of a two-week camp that will culminate with students collectively responding to a mock emergency situation.
Participation is limited to 40 students with individuals being physically fit and not claustrophobic in order to participate in planned field activities that include rappelling, smoke house and confined space exercises.
Cost is $125 with registration currently underway in the Center for Economic Development, Del Mar College Annex, 3209 Staples.
