Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Nursing Program Recognized for Best Practices in Student Retention and Graduation


CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is one of three schools in Texas recognized by the Nursing Education Performance Initiative (NEPI) for demonstrating best practices in retaining and graduating students from their initial licensure programs.


Texas A&M-Corpus Christi joins the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and the University of Texas at Austin (UT). As a result, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will receive a $25,000 grant. The three universities were among nine schools initially eligible for NEPI recognition by achieving an 85 percent or higher graduation rate and 85 percent or higher NCLEX pass rate in 2009. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi nursing students have a 93 percent graduation rate and a first-time NCLEX pass rate of 92 percent on the Texas Board of Nursing examination.


The school's best practices can be read on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's Web site at http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/ in October 2010. Other schools meeting the 85 percent eligibility requirements were: Baylor University, Brookhaven College, Collin County Community College District, Lamar State College-Orange, Lone Star College-Kingwood, and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
