New CEO

Leah Barrett will serve as the first female president of Nebraska’s Northeast Community College, effective early 2020. She is currently vice president for student affairs at the Northern Wyoming Community College District, a position she has held since 2016. Prior to that, Barrett was associate vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at the College at Brockport (State University of New York) from 2008 to 2016. She has also worked at Arizona State University, Boise State University, University of Wyoming and Valparaiso University since first entering higher education in 1992.

Kudos

Constance Carroll, chancellor of the San Diego Community College District (SDCCD), has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship. SDCCD has long played a major role in building the region’s innovation economy, from the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies’ San Diego Technology Incubator at City College, to San Diego Continuing Education’s Small Business Management program.

Obituary

Seymour Eskow, who became president of Rockland Community College (RCC) in New York in 1963 and served there for two decades, has died at age 95. During his tenure, the Academic II classroom building, the library and field house were added on the main campus. Eskow worked his way up to president during his 17 years at Mohawk Valley Community College, one of the first post-war two-year colleges in the state. After he left RCC in the early 1980s, Eskow was an early proponent of online learning, developing a doctoral program offered through AOL.

“Dr. Eskow was a pioneer for change; he pursued revolutionary expansion and took risks to magnify the vision for the college,” said Michael Baston, the college’s current president.

Appointments

Cody Fino was named director of industry partnerships for healthcare at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). Prior to this position, he was coordinator for CCRI’s satellite campus at the Westerly Education Center.

Andrew Lindberg is now director of workforce development at Cleveland State Community College in Tennessee. Over the past two decades, Lindberg has worked in plant management and director roles.

Jan Yokeley is the new director of customized training at Cape Fear Community College in North Carolina. He has spent more than 15 years as an economic developer in the Triad Region.
