ED expected to nix gainful employment regulation
The U.S. Education Department (ED) is expected to publish in late June or early July a final regulation to eliminate the so-called “gainful employment” rule, which was promulgated during the Obama administration mainly to ensure that for-profit institutions were not burdening students with college loans that they could not repay. Program initiatives

MentorLinks proposals due June 24
AACC has extended the deadline to June 24 for its national grant competition for the MentorLinks: Advancing Technological Education program, developed with the support of the National Science Foundation. MentorLinks is designed for community colleges seeking to improve technician education programs in the science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields. MentorLinks colleges will receive $20,000 for the two-year grant period and travel support for the project director to attend three project meetings.

Fulbright opportunities
Fulbright is offering a two-week seminar in Russia for community college administrators. Participants will engage with Russian educators at a variety of regional institutions, discuss issues concerning the U.S. system of higher education and share best practices in education administration. The deadline to apply is October 15. There also is a Fulbright Community College Faculty Award, which involves teaching courses in Russia for one or two semesters. The deadline to apply for the faculty award is September 16.
